The building, formerly used as a school is being demolished and rebuilt is will be built with lime and hemp and wooden load-bearing structure, which is a modern and sustainable green building solution. The walls consist of a mixture of lime and hemp that, when applied around the wooden structure, creates an insulating, breathable and environmentally friendly envelope. This combination takes advantage of the natural qualities of lime, which protects the wood from moisture and possible external agents, and hemp, which provides lightness and excellent thermal and acoustic insulation.
The wooden structure provides solidity and flexibility, adapting perfectly to the mixture of hemp and lime and creating a strong and safe building, even in seismic areas. The result is an energy-efficient and naturally breathable construction that promotes a healthy indoor environment with natural moisture control and no need for complex ventilation systems. Aesthetically, the wood-frame building presents a natural and harmonious appearance, blending seamlessly into its surroundings and meeting the criteria of sustainability and living comfort.

The new building will have modern, sustainable architecture designed to ensure comfort, energy efficiency, and durability with these features:

  1. Wooden supporting structure:
    • The house will have a main wooden load-bearing structure, consisting of frames or pillars of glulam or solid wood, depending on the design and structural requirements.
    • Wood, treated to resist moisture and weathering, is chosen for its lightness, flexibility and seismic resistance, qualities that enhance structural safety.
  2. Lime and hemp biocomposite walls.:
    • The exterior walls will consist of a biocompound of lime and hemp, applied around the wooden structure. This mixture is sprayed or poured into the formwork around the structure, enveloping it completely and creating a homogeneous, insulating masonry.
    • Interior walls can also use lime and hemp, thus maintaining continuous insulation and good thermal regulation throughout the house.
  3. Thermal and acoustic insulation:
    • Thanks to biocompound, the house will have high thermal insulation, which will keep it warm in winter and cool in summer. This will greatly reduce the need for heating and cooling systems.
    • Lime and hemp walls also have excellent sound insulation capabilities, creating a quiet indoor environment protected from outside noise.
  4. Breathability and moisture regulation:
    • Lime and hemp walls will allow natural transpiration, promoting a constant passage of water vapor and keeping indoor humidity at optimal levels.
    • This helps prevent mold and condensation, improving indoor air quality and creating a healthy living environment.
  5. Natural and welcoming aesthetics:
    • The house will have a warm and natural aesthetic, with exposed wood in the load-bearing structures and interior and exterior finishes of lime and hemp, giving a harmonious and pleasant appearance.
